The University of Lagos(UNILAG) suspends 125, and rusticates 198 students

The officials of the University of Lagos have suspended 125 students and rusticated 198 additional for examination malpractices and cheating during the last academic session examination. This decision was taken in order to maintain the rules and orders of the University, because it is popularly known that examination malpractices is very rampant in the University of Lagos. So, to curb this fact, the university organization decided to take this measure in large mass for the very first time.

This was first of all taken like a rumour until  the list was of the students that was affected was pasted on the Universities website. According to the Universities deputy registrar(Information) the University will soon display the names and pictures of the students on social media which is in respect to the university's strive to curb examination malpractices and other vices.

Speaking to reporters in Lagos on Sunday, he said:
Yes we have published some names in our website and this students will be punished in various degrees depending on the severity
Last session a number of students were caught in examination malpractices, some were caught cheating with micro chips while others were hired by surrogates to write papers for others.
Some were caught smoking weed(marijuana) in the halls of residence and they were reported by to the University authorities by their colleagues
For those who were caught impersonating i.e. writing examinations for others will be out-rightly rusticated  while the other categories of students caught smoking weed and cheating in the examination malpractices will be faced with suspension ranging from two semester to four semesters
In other to get the desired effect of their punishment, we are planing to publish all their names as well as display their photographs all over the campus in the next one week
We shall carry this measure in all the departments and faculties in the institution, this is to ensure that the affected students have nowhere to hibernate on campus, by doing this, the affected students will know that the university management wants to ensure total compliance to the sanction and will not want to be seen anywhere around the campus
Adebule added that there are always rules and regulations guiding students, but the level of indiscipline has skyrocketed in the University of Lagos for the past few years. The action is aimed at bringing the University to the standard of other Universities in the world. He then made it very clear that the action has nothing to do with the recent riot as most of the students are guessing that some students involved in the riot are also dealt with in disguise by the school management.
